    Hi & Welcome!

In addition to Caf's post, have a look here for some more info about
Compiz-Fusion and openSUSE : 'Compiz Fusion - openSUSE'
    And the original project: http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/
    Have allot of fun!

Only thing I would add at this time is:
Generally I would advise anyone using such effects as compiz to NOT use
auto login. If you ask me it's a security nightmare having it enabled.

WHY: because sometimes the GUI throws a wobbly and you can get to the
desktop. It's easier for less experienced users to then just login to
    icewm to repair the problem.
    ===========================================
The, unless you feel really adventurous and tread the kde4 path. Then
there is loads to go at.

Packman repo, I think has lots of Mac effects, trays, etc.. you can use
    in gnome

It would help if you tell us what sort of NIC you are using. As you say
    replaced, I guess PCI.

    So in a terminal do:

    lspci

post result here or just the part we need if you can see it

There is a Hardware page here:
    'Hardware - openSUSE' (http://en.opensuse.org/Hardware)

You may be able to find your ethernet card there

*You might want to start a new thread on this in the right area, and
use the forum rather than PM's, then everyone can have input, you will
    get better help that way*
