Thread: I need a music Player that will work with SUSE 11

  1. #1

Default I need a music Player that will work with SUSE 11

I run open SUSE 11 and I am trying to find a music player that just works!

    I have tried:

Songbird but it just plays the first second or two of any song at superhigh speed then cuts out and I cannot import any music from my music folder!

Amarok just plays the tracks at super high speed and again I cannot import any music from my music folder!

Banshee does not even begin to play mp3 files

Atunes I could find no way to make any file play

What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is play back some mp3's!
    Please Help!

Though it is considered a video player, I use Kaffeine for music all the time and have had no problems with CDs. downloaded files or streaming radio stations.

    Hi Andy,
I am sorry to be so dumb but what does "packman repo's" mean?

The way I installed all the programs was as follows.

go to the "Computer" button on my toolbar then go to the "install Software" button.

Then I check the "installed Tab" to see if it is already there if not I go to the "Available" tab and type the name of the program I am looking for in the "Filters" box.

hope this sheds some light on what I am doing wrong

You probably installed amarok etc from the default install repo. Those packages wont work due to legal matters (no mp3 support). What you need to do is first add another repository in yast. Packman is a great repo for multimedia. You can find others here: Additional YaST Package Repositories - openSUSE

How to add a repository follow this link: Repositories - openSUSE-Community

    Hi suskewiet
Is "repo" linux slang for repository? if so I have that Packman repository installed and enabled as far as I can see.

I have noticed that the only Amarok available is for KDE I run Gnome would that make a difference?
