SUSE Desktop Environment

First of all, I believe openSUSE should have its own DE like Ubuntu does, with Unity. Something like a fork of gnome or KDE lol! I’ve seen the openSUSE installer and it has this strict but enjoyable environment… That could be applied in a DE too. Focusing on productivity and stuff. Gnome 3 is too simple, plasma 5 too bloated and distracting and the other popular DE’s too old for us youngsters :stuck_out_tongue: just sayin’

So, can we use the gnome environment, used by the latest SUSE linux, in openSUSE? I saw a video on youtube and it looked very nice with the panel in the bottom and the white theme and stuff…

wrong place, this is more of a soapbox thread

ps what about the other DE’s like xfce or lxde personally I’ve been enjoying lxqt with the new (introduced with 0.10) green opensuse themes (there are 3 of 'em)

Are you asking how to get sle’s gnome theme on opensuse or soaping about unity and a debian fork?

A big part of SLE’s look has not been ported to opensuse but you could try and install some SLED branding, try
https://software.opensuse.org/search?utf8=✓&q=branding-SLED
and install available LEAP packages

what is “soaping”? :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks. And no I was just asking. About the environment I saw. Can I post the youtube link? So what packages should I install? gtk3-branding-SLED only?

First, why do you make this so tiny that many people will have problems to read it?
Second, this is a technical help sub-forum and the above is not a question for technical help. Something like this should be started in one of the Community & Fun sub-forums lke General Chit-chat or Soapbox.

These are the openSUSE forums and most people here have no technical knowledge (if they even have knowledge of the existence of) SUSE (SLED/SLES). But in general it is not wise to mix different distributions/versions.

So better try to re-formulate your request on the basis of openSUSE Leap 42.1 and the Gnome running on it.

I don’t know I don’t use gnome, I’d say most that have a LEAP package like
gfxboot-branding-SLED (this is the boot theme and not necessary but it has a leap package)
gtk3-branding-SLED
gtk2-branding-SLED
gconf2-branding-SLED
gnome-menus-branding-SLED
and don’t forget gnome-shell-classic
About youtube links I’m not sure about the forum rules, if it’s relevant you should be able to post it.

Soapboxing is talking off topic ideas like your thought about opensuse having only 1 desktop, why I have 3 installed and none of them are gtk based or gnome related

edit most of the SLED links on the oss repo seam to be dead so you might need to get them from GNOME:Factory repo

Hi
There are specific SLE extensions in use for the customizations, as
well as some hard coded tweaks in Gnome-Shell for SLE 12… easier to
run gnome-shell-classic and work from there with extensions.
