Well, I suppose the nvidia drivers do work for most people.
I doubt there is a general problem with the current versions, or there would have been a lot of people complaining already.

    E.g. http://susepaste.org
Not sure if this is going to work or if susepaste was blocked by my browser add-ons but please see if this url works. There should be two files, the BAK being the broken system log and the other being the log without nvidia drivers. I may need instruction if this doesn't work.

Meanwhile I have had a couple more unrelated crashes for no reason and am beginning to suspect hardware fault in the box. Have backed up and will work over weekend bringing new machine up to speed with my preferred software.

This won't help at all, sorry.

I feared as much. Try these:-

    http://susepaste.org/63451926

    http://susepaste.org/47950002

I cannot see how to just upload the file. Strange but true!

[ 24.468] (EE) [drm] KMS not enabled
[ 24.468] (EE) open /dev/dri/card0: No such file or directory
This should normally only happen if there's "nomodeset" in the kernel command line (which it isn't), or something vital (the KMS driver) is missing from the initrd.
Running "mkinitrd" might fix that, but installing/uninstalling the nvidia driver should do that automatically anyway.
Anyway, still worth a try I suppose.

One more thing I do find a bit strange:
fbdev cannot be loaded either, because of:
    Code:
(EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory
Otherwise I don't really see anything wrong, except the "AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0" error in the nvidia case you mentioned.

Maybe it's really a hardware fault.

I suppose I'd try to boot from a LiveCD and then look into the Xorg.0.log to see whether nouveau works then...

    Regarding your missing boot menu:
Can you please post the content of /etc/default/grub too?

I cannot see how to just upload the file. Strange but true!
You can only upload picture files.
For text you have to paste it, that's why it's called suse*paste*...
If you prefer to upload a file, you can use any other file sharing service you like. The file just has to be publicly accessible of course.
