    Hello,

    I want to add subcategories to the startup menu without any application. how can I do it??

    And why would you even want to do that?
    Empty subcategories are normally not shown at all, in KDE at least.

    If Gogalthorp's post wasn't clear,
    Every Desktop is implemented differently and use different tools to manage the app menu.

    If you're not using KDE, I wrote an article for LXDE which applies to a number of other Desktops... At least for LXDE you <must not> use the tool most commonly used on other distros...

    I want to add a subcategories named c++ in development categories to store related applications.

    You still have not told which desk top you use the procedures may be different.
