Apologies I had tried 'PrtScn' using kde4 in plasma5 it works fine.

Well, it should work fine in KDE4 as well. But apparently you don't have ksnapshot installed any more (KDE4's default shortcut tries to launch ksnapshot of course).
If you use my repo, you should be able to install ksnapshot and spectacle at the same time (and even ksnapshot5... )
