gnome: no lock screen; no apps menu

Leap 42.1, gnome 3.16

I’ve been a kde user for more than 10 years. I’m trying gnome for the first time. I like it. Anyway, I haven’t found two things that seem important to me:

  1. No way to lock the screen. I’ve installed an extension called “Lock screen” that is supposed to "Add lock icon to the panel and lock the screen instead of using ctrl+alt+l. The icon appears in the panel, but nothing happens when I click on it. Apart from that, ctrl+alt+l doesn’t lock the screen either. Any idea?

  2. No apps menu. There are some among the available extensions (https://extensions.gnome.org/) but they seem impossible to install. Unlike other extensions, when I click on the switch it becomes “On” for some seconds, I’m asked if I want to download and install the extension, I say yes and then it becomes “Off” again. This happens in all the extensions for menus that I’ve found. Any idea?

Thanks.

Hi
Click on the upside triangle (top right) and then click on the
padlock…

Just add them to overview, you can search and add/remove to the
favorites?

If an extension turns off like that it’s likely a missing typelib, you
need to check the comments or extension development page to see what
it’s expecting.

Hi
You could always install gnome-shell-classic and then logout and select
that as well.

It was already installed. That’s not the problem.
I can access to activities and then the apps, but they are not classified or grouped. I still don’t know the names of many gnome apps. That’s why I need a menu.

Thank you.
Sorry for my ignorance in this matter (and in many others ;)).

What is the padlock?
In the top right corner there is a triangle pointing downwards. Clicking on it I see a popup with some information about audio and bluetooth devices and two buttons, one for settings and the other to Power off.

The issue about the menus is solved. Now it seems to work normally.
In the menu there is a button to lock the screen. It doesn’t work.

I tried this too. But no way: lock screen doesn’t work.
