Unhappy VirtualBox (standard repo version) can't start any virtual machine (kernel driver not installed)

    Hello,
Whenever I try to start a virtual machine from virtual box I get this error:

    Code:
    Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing

    '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

as root. If it is available in your distribution, you should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.
I followed all those steps, updated the system, I even removed everything related to virtualbox from my system and reinstalled a clean copy, but /etc/init.d/vboxdrv still won't do anything:

    Code:
    # /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
Recompiling VirtualBox kernel module, NOT. It has been packaged.
I have installed dkms as well, ran dkms as root which again doesn't output anything.

my kernel version is (should be the default one since I haven't changed anything there):

    Code:
    # uname -r
    3.7.10-1.16-desktop
What am I missing to get a virtual machine to actually run? I've been trying everything I found on the internet and nothing worked.
