Don't know if this is a solution for you : http://www.linuxweblog.com/dd-image
Compress the partition or whole disk to save some space on backup disk.

I think you have to run some live or rescue OS, openSUSE on your system you want to backup should not be running.
ASUS G46VW running openSUSE LEAP 42.1, Windows 8
Samsung NP300V3A running openSUSE LEAP 42.1 Windows 7
Some EEEPC running openSUSE LEAP 42.1, "Server" running sshfs, (mini)DLNA, NFS
Raspberry Pi, Weezy, openSUSE 13.1 (two different SD-cards)

Are you trying to create a custom openSUSE install with your select applications
    or
Are you trying to create an image based backup of your system
    or
Are you trying to clone your install immediately to another machine?

    You can
dd is a command line utility to make a copy of either individual partitions or the complete hdd

It's probably quicker to do a new install though, even with all the configuration and moving of files etc..
