Thread: Leap & Yast problem

    Default Leap & Yast problem

Installed Leap 42.1 (KDE) + NVidia repo drivers.

One strange problem I found is that when I run Yast and click on "Online
Update" or "Software Management" the next window opens for some brief time
(while it perhaps gathers information on packages) but then closes on its
    own (!).

The only way I have to keep it open so I can use it is to click on the Title
Bar while this initial package information gathering until all the fields
and tabs are drawn in the window.

Other Yast sections (like the Repositories and Partitioner) do not seem to
have this problem, but I have not tried them all.

    Has anybody seen this?
    Thanks.

Yast is working fine for me.

Is it possible that you have some software conflicts?

What repos are you using? (Post the output from
    Code:
     zypper lr -d
, and use code tags to post it.

A quick follow up. I just noticed that if I enabled the desktops effects
then Yast behaves as expected. !?
In the past I experienced that having the desktop effects off I had less
problems of losing the decorations when running some Java programs, so I
    always switched the effects off.

I had disabled the Compositor under Display & Monitor in the System
Settings, and enabled it again now. Was that the right way of doing it?
Perhaps there is a better way of disabling the effects?

    Thanks

    G

I'll have to experiment with desktop effect off, to see if the problem occurs then.

On my box with Nvidia graphics (an older 6150LE card), I have compositing set to use XRender. It doesn't seem to like OpenGL.

And yes, what you did does seem to be the correct way of enabling/disabling desktop effects.

On your repo list -- I don't see any problem that would cause conflicts. However, I don't know what is in that "edogawa" repo. I would suggest that you remove the Adobe repo, and instead install "flash" from the packman repo.

Thank you, tHat is useful too. Effects on are just causing a very slow mouse
    here :-(

Yes, will do. The edogawa repo is for some music programs, the problem
    happened before I added it.

I turned of Desktop effects on my box with Nvidia graphics. I am still not seeing the problem that you describe.

I'll note, though, that I do have the Nvidia drivers installed. I would not be surprised if the nouveau driver causes weird effects, but I'm not about to uninstall the nvidia drivers just to test that.

Thanks for the follow up. After switching on and off the effects again it
seems to be working fine. (?!??)
    Cheers
