    Default Failed to start open-vm-tools

    I have installed open-vm-tools 10.0.0 from http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...openSUSE_13.2/
It fails to start the service. I have also tried open-vm-tools 9.4.6 that comes with openSUSE 13.2, but that fails too.

    Running open-vm-tools 10.0.0 from Virtualization:VMware
    Code:
    machine:/ # service vmtoolsd status
vmtoolsd.service - Service for virtual machines hosted on VMware
       Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/vmtoolsd.service; disabled)
       Active: inactive (dead)
         Docs: http://github.com/vmware/open-vm-tools
    machine:~ # service vmtoolsd start
Failed to restart vmtoolsd.service: Unit vgauthd.service failed to load: No such file or directory.
    Running open-vm-tools 9.4.6 from openSUSE-13.2-Update
    Code:
    machine:~ # service vmtoolsd start
    machine:~ # service vmtoolsd status
vmtoolsd.service - Service for virtual machines hosted on VMware
       Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/vmtoolsd.service; disabled)
Active: failed (Result: core-dump) since Thu 2015-10-22 11:39:16 CEST; 1s ago
         Docs: http://open-vm-tools.sourceforge.net/about.php
      Process: 21870 ExecStart=/usr/bin/vmtoolsd (code=dumped, signal=SEGV)
     Main PID: 21870 (code=dumped, signal=SEGV)

Running open-vm-tools 9.4.0 on SLES 12 goes without any problems. Comes with SLES 12 distribution
Running open-vm-tools 10.0.0 on SLES 11 SP3 goes without any problems. Comes with http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...are/SLE_11_SP3

    First,
If you're posting about a virtualization issue, you'd get best results posting in the Virtualization forum.

I posted the procedure for updating your system to the latest (or for that matter any version) of VMware Tools in the following post. Although the post describes testing LEAP Beta one, the steps are applicable for any version of openSUSE except TW running any VMware product.

Seems the problem was solved with the latest patched version of open-vm-tools
    Old: 10.0.0-183.1
    New: 10.0.0-185.1

The project I quoted states that because of the nature of the code and how it has to be compatible with so much other code they can't control directly to expect constant breakages from time to time. Report any issues at that site to get fastest response.
