    I just bought a new laptop and can't for the life of me get it to work.... been reading lots: "getting your wireless to work" etc and lots more

    It simply doesn't show up in network manager

    Please check the networking mode ( wicked / networkmanager ) in Yast's Networksettings. If it's set to wicked, change it to networkmanager.

    it's using networkmanager... but the wifi interface doesn't show in wicked either... it does work in Windows 8.1

    Knurpht, I just realise, that IP address is not from the built in wireless adapter, it's the usb TPLINK I'm using right now... otherwise I've no connection.

    I have since discovered that this particular Qualcomm adapter is not yet supported under linux, there are several bug reports about this.. for example here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...x/+bug/1484159
