    Default thunderbird won't start - fglrx issue?

    I have a 13.2/kde 4.14.9 Linux 3.16.7-24-desktop machine just recently updated after a 2 month nap.

    Thunderbird is ver 38.1.0-22.1 from the 13-2-Update repo
    fglrx is ver 15.200.1046-1 from the AMD-FGLRX repo

    The update upgraded both Thunderbird and fglrx.

    thunderbird crashes on startup
    Code:
    carl@PVE-LinuxSRV5:~> thunderbird

    (process:11611): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed
    [calBackendLoader] Using libical backend at /home/carl/.thunderbird/v09niquf.default/extensions/{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}/components/libical-manifest
    Floating point exception
    I add fglrx info here since I have an intel laptop running essentially the same 13.2/4.14.9 but intel graphics and all works fine.

    Anyone else seeing this?

    I already tried backing up ~/.thunderbird and starting from scratch.
    A new ~/thunderbird gets built on startup, but then crashes.

    Are you using the calendar addon? Or any other addon? If so, start it in
    safe mode (thunderbird --help)

    Normally, I do run the calendar addon.
    However, I sort of expected that by removing my ~/.thunderbird and having the system provide a new, clean profile, that all addons would have to be re-added.

    So here is what I get
    Code:
    carl@PVE-LinuxSRV5:~> thunderbird --safe-mode

    (process:12357): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed

    ---starts up OK ------
    --- now exit and restart --

    carl@PVE-LinuxSRV5:~> thunderbird

    (process:12524): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed
    [calBackendLoader] Using libical backend at /home/carl/.thunderbird/v09niquf.default/extensions/{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}/components/libical-manifest
    Floating point exception
    When run in safe mode, it does start up.

    When run with it's default profile, it crashes with the highlighted additional error message

    Looking at my intel machine, I get the same [calBackendLoader] message on startup, so apparently the issues is with libical-manifest and fglrx

    Thanks for the hint, now I search for a solution.

    I mention because in my desktop thunderbird crashes, after an update,
    till I disabled the "Provider for Google Calendar" addon, that connects
    Lightning with google. however, on my laptop I have no issues.

    The text output in my terminal clearly hints at the google component.

    This one doesn't matter. I have it on normal start.

    The second one is the crucial one.
    you have to find out what extension is in that directory, then disable it.

    By incremental trial and error, I determined that it was an add-on
    TrackerBird 1.2.6
    causing the crash.

    No reason to blame fglrx, I did not have this login loaded on my intel laptop.

    Calender stuff works fine

    If that is the same as the package racker-miner-thunderbird, it is long
    ago known that it causes problems.
