Default Accessing drive from live disk (for ext4magic)

    Hi all

I'm using an opensuse live disk to run ext4magic to undelete some files in my home directory

When i try to run it using:

    Code:
    sudo ext4magic /dev/sda3 -a $(date-d"-24hours" +%s)-f home/<name>/Documents-l
    I get the error:

    Code:
Error: Inode not found for "home/<name>/Documents"

check the valid PATHNAME for "home/<name>/Documents"
If i look at the drive through the file explorer I can see the top level contents of "home" but can't enter the <name> dir, presumably because of permissions

is there a way to let the system know I'm me so I'm allowed to access that dir?

    EDIT:

i chmodded the dir recursively so i can see the files, but get the same message from ext4magic

    Cheers!

Please don't use font alterations inside code tags blocks: I see it as
    extra chars, like asterisks.

Are you sure it is ext4? By default home is not.

Well if 13.2 the default home is file system is XFS. Normal method would be to mount it from the live and do what needs done. If corrupt you need to not mount it and run fsck against that partition . Deleting home seems a bit drastic since it holds all you personal files and settings.

    Hi again

sorry i'll clarify, my home partition was already ext4, removing 'home' from the directory path in the ext4magic command allowed it to find the directory i wanted to recover (even though all guides I'd researched included the 'home' level of the path..)

Ok /home is the mount point thus does not exist on the home partition. So just looking into the partition you do not see a home reference/ the mount point /home is on /

Probably because they were talking of single partition install.
