Default Problems with Jabref (LaTeX bibliography managing tool): probably java related?

    Hi,
i have problems running Jabref 2.10 on openSUSE 13.1 which is a common java based bibliography managing tool for LaTeX/Bibtex.
As there is no package in the repos i downloaded the jar file from this site: http://jabref.sourceforge.net/documentation.php#linux
    I got a file called: JabRef-2.10.jar
Running this with this command: java -jar JabRef-2.10.jar
    creates this output:
    Code:
    Jul 15, 2015 1:48:38 AM net.sf.jabref.Globals logger
    Information: Hostname not found.
    Jul 15, 2015 1:48:38 AM net.sf.jabref.Globals logger
    Information: Hostname not found.
    Found 2 plugin(s):
      - net.sf.jabref.core (jar:file:/home/oliver/Programme/JabRef-2.10.jar!/plugins/net.sf.jabref.core/plugin.xml)
      - net.sf.jabref.export.misq (jar:file:/home/oliver/Programme/JabRef-2.10.jar!/plugins/net.sf.jabref.export.misq/plugin.xml)

Could not get key binding for "Open folder"
additionally a blank gray window opened with nothing in it, and then the nothing further happens.
Does anyone have an advice for me? I need this to run because this is basically the only tool that runs on linux.

The unstable just means it's in one of the home repositories. My nginx is marked as unstable and it runs a service for millions of daily users. Go figure

Although you can/should try the package Miuku points to,
IMO your problem is more likely because you probably need either a JDK, ie openjdk-devel or Oracle SE JDK.

Ok i added one of the "unstable" packages from the link, the installation went fine but when trying to start i get the same blank gray window.
I even installed java-1_7-openjdk-devel but that does not helped.
I did not tried to installed the oracle version thought.

    I downloaded JabRef-2.10.jar. Then I tried:

    Code:
    cer-g@minas-tirith:~/tmp> java -jar JabRef-2.10.jar
    Jul 15, 2015 3:38:56 AM java.util.prefs.FileSystemPreferences$1 run
    INFO: Created user preferences directory.
    Found 2 plugin(s):
    - net.sf.jabref.core (jar:file:/home/cer-g/tmp/JabRef-2.10.jar!/plugins/net.sf.jabref.core/plugin.xml)
    - net.sf.jabref.export.misq (jar:file:/home/cer-g/tmp/JabRef-2.10.jar!/plugins/net.sf.jabref.export.misq/plugin.xml)

Could not get key binding for "Open folder"

I do get a grey window, but it has a menu and icon buttons. I don't know what it does, so I stopped there.
    I have oracle java.

    Code:
    cer-g@minas-tirith:~/tmp> java -version
    java version "1.7.0_79"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_79-b15)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.79-b02, mixed mode)
    cer-g@minas-tirith:~/tmp>

    I have openjdk:
    Code:
    java version "1.7.0_55"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.4.8) (suse-24.17.1-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.55-b03, mixed mode)
can i have a parallel installation of oracle java and then test if it works with that?

Sure, I have both. With update alternatives script you choose which is
    default.
There is a wiki somewhere at openSUSE that explains the procedure. Use
the rpm to install it, not the bundle.

Ok at first i was realy dumb, there was no problem in the first place! I just installed Oracle Java and then got the same blank window, but in fact at it was not blank...
The initial window is mostly blank but there is the options bar on the top of the window that was hidden outside of the screen because the window was opened with an offset.
After i maximized the window it was clearly visible, i guess it would have worked with openjdk too, right from the beginning.

    Sorry for that.
