Thread: How to add a signature to a pdf?

Default How to add a signature to a pdf?

This is a common required action for me but I see no way to do it in the default reader. My understanding is the acrobat reader is no longer supported for Linux so what's the alternative.

I see that GIMP will load a pdf but then the whole file is going to be converted to an image and I am not sure if it will work on multiple pages.

That's right, there is no more acroread for Linux. You can still use the
old, unpatched one, but of course, it is "reader", it could never
generate and sign PDFs. Not in Linux.

In fact, although I know several tools to generate PDFs in Linux, I'm
not aware of one that can add cryptographic signatures. I may not have
noticed, but I'm not aware of it. Worse, there is no way to my knowledge
to even check if a signature is valid — except by using the old reader.

No, gimp is not the appropriate tool for PDFs.

If you mean with to "add a signature" to sign a PDF with a digital signature, you can use e.g. Master PDF Editor from Code Industry. It is a free (but closed source) PDF Editor on Linux for non-commercial use (you can buy a license for commercial use). Here is a link to the documentation how to create and sign signatures.
Or you wait until LibreOffice 4.5.
Oops, it seems that this is already in LibreOffice 4.4. Can someone confirm?

You could see if https://paulbradley.org/digitally-sign-pdf-files/ will meet your needs.

That one is very interesting, but it doesn't address a crucial issue:
AFAIK, there is no way in Linux to verify those signatures.
