Fax with VoIP directly possible? with t38?
my internet/phone provider is switching to VoIP (=all-over-IP).
that means that even if I use a Fax device attached to my router, the data is converted to IP anyway.
I therefore conclude that it should be possible (in theory) to send faxes directly via software without dedicated fax hardware.
is there such a software available for opensuse?
I found t38modem with reference to hylafax. that seems to do it.
http://software.opensuse.org/package...earch_term=t38
had anyone been successful in implementing it?
EDIT:
looks like here it's done with t3modem / hylafax:

I believe that if you connect the fax machine to the "new" phone line,
the results are not good (timing issues, I think). In fact, they can be
very bad.
I have seen ideas that allow sending of facsimiles over IP using other
protocols, but I have not experimented with it. Some people contract an
external "fax relay" to do the job.

There is a voip or telephony repo.
I Have the impression I read about this stuff in the asterisk site
documentation; I would have to dig it out from my notes somewhere.
