Default Konqueror as a web browser, advantages and disadvantages

    Hi.
I am interested in the experience of experienced opensuse users using a web browser Konqueror in daily use.
Is Konqueror usable for everyday work as a web browser, if there are any errors that I should know, whether there are hidden defects?
How is this safe web browser, whether it is convenient to use online internet banking, for gmail, for facebook , for google plus, for outlook.com, for youtube-multimedia, .......

Recently I installed openSUSE 13.2 KDE, 64 bit, and firefox no integration with KDE wallet, a Firefox extension that would allow not very stable.
That's why I work for everyday use web browser Konqueror because idim that it nicely integrates with KDE wallet. So far I have never used the web browser so I wonder what is the daily work, whether it is safe, reliable and stable?
Thanks in advance for all the answers.

I don't know if I'll be of much help, but here goes: I used Konq a long time ago. It had some problems, so I went to Firefox. Until recently, I was happy with firefox, so why change? But now it seems, uh, bloated? I've gone to using Konq again. It seems pretty trouble free. I don't see the downloadable addins though. I use a custom hosts file to eliminate the ads, so adaware or the like isn't a problem for me. That file also makes me feel a LOT more comfortable for banking and the like. Once in a while, I rip a video from youtube, and can't seem to do that in Konq. That said, there seems to be much finer control over ads, cookies, and much more. In addition, Konq will do things FF never thought of.

Really, I'd like to see it become the defacto standard for Linux!

I'd be interested in your decision, and the reasons, when you make it.

I'm using it right now to read the opensuse forums and for this reply.

Yes, it is usable. I am using it in WebKit mode (not KHTML mode). If I switch it to KHTML, then more sites have problems.

It crashes a bit more often than "firefox", but is reasonably stable. However, I do not use it for banking. I have not tried it for banking. For various reasons, I have a separate firefox profile that I use for that.

I have used it for gmail. I never did join up facebook, so I have no experience with that. I have not tried outlook.com either. Youtube videos are fine on konqueror. I'm not sure about vimeo, where I have had problems. Those problems might be because I have AdBlock (EasyList) turned on.

Recently I installed openSUSE 13.2 KDE, 64 bit, and firefox no integration with KDE wallet, a Firefox extension that would allow not very stable.
I also use firefox, and consider it more stable. But I have never used the Kwallet integration extension with firefox. Instead, I allow firefox to keep its own password (with a master password for protection). I consider it a benefit of firefox, that it is independent of KDE.

I'm using konqueror in conjunction with Akregator. And it turns out that the majority of my browsing is done that way. However, I sometimes use "rekonq" instead of "konqueror". You might want to give "rekonq" a try. It will use your "konqueror" bookmarks, your "konqueror" cookies (as with login cookies) and your "konqueror" saved passwords in kwallet. I have run into a few sites that complain about "konqueror" but do not complain about "rekonq".

Problems with konqueror: One problem I had was with code blocks not being displayed properly at opensuse forums. Someone suggested this might be a font problem. So I changed the fixed width font. Then I changed it back. And now it works. It seems that it was not really using the default fonts until I made a font configuration change.

Also copy/paste at opensuse forums doesn't quite work properly. But that's a forums bug, not a konqueror bug. I went into the browser identification settings, and told konqueror to pretend that it is firefox when accessing opensuse forums. And, with that change, all is good.

Thank you for answers and advice.
I see that Konqueror has a pre-installed Adblock, but I do not know which filters to activate and you're without disable something important for daily use website.

I see that the konqueror lot slower than firefox or google chrome and it sometimes does not open a page on the grounds that the time period for a response. Refresh websites help and then the page loads normally.

If there's a more user Konqueror, so that we communicate their experiences and useful tips for using Konqueror for web viewing.

I have used Konqueror regularly in my work for over eight years; apart from during the introduction of KDE4 when I continued to use the KDE3 version, I have had no serious problems with it.

Advantages: a single tabbed browser/file manager for accessing websites and files; kioslaves - for example, online documents which I trust can be opened and read; assumes user knows what they are doing; shortcuts, eg. gg, dd, wp, en2fr, man, which give direct access to online or system resources; warns of security issues; parses malformed HTML better than chromium; highly configurable; right click allows me to open an alternative browser (firefox, chromium) if Konqueror cannot display a page correctly.

Disadvantages: supports only about 2/3 of newer HTML features - but very few websites use these!; occasional problems with video but these are rarer today; occasional display problems - but even then, there is no need to close Konqueror, just open chromium on top of it, read the page and close chromium.

I have used chromium as a backup for several years and I do not find Konqueror significantly slower at opening web pages; also the advantages - being able to view documents online instead of being forced to download them first, being able to tab between online pages and files or even convert a web page to a file directory and vice versa without changin tab - more than compensate for any perceived slowness.

I have used it for online banking throughout that time and though my bank insists on putting up a message about it being an unsupported browser it has caused me no problems at all. Indeed, its security alerts make we aware of every step I am taking when buying online.

    @john_hudson

Thank you for your suggestions for Konqueror.

I use Konqueror for a couple of days and I am very satisfied.
Never before have not used it, so I have a lot of unknown things in Konqueror.
How and where on and off hardware acceleration?

A little Konqueror seems slower than Google Chrome, and sometimes does not load a web page
and then indicates that it is timed to connect I Now click on the refresh page and the page is then loaded ..
maybe someone here knows how to solve it?

I also see that the plugin to translate web pages has only a few languages offered for the translation of the title.
I need Croatian but this language is not in the deals.

If there are more users here who have been using Konqueror,
I would like to give me advice if I need to specially configure and edit the settings ..

This is my first encounter with a web browser Konqueror and learning from the beginning.

    Nowhere.
What hardware acceleration do you want to turn on and off anyway?

For Flash, right-click on a flash video and choose "Settings", you can enable/disable hardware acceleration in the dialog that appears.

It is using the KDE settings for connect timeout. The default is 20 seconds. You can change that in
Configure Desktop --> Network Settings --> Connection Preferences

I'm leaving it at the default.
