    Default Please HELP!!! ATI DRIVERS!!!

Hi, basically all linux distros are driving me crazy , for the last couple of weeks I've tried Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, (first time trying OpenSUSE 13.1 Gnome) and i was never able to get any ATI driver (XFX 6750 1GB) working properly, can someone help from right after OpenSUSE is installed, how should i proceed to get the graphic driver working, thanks in advance!

    Hi
So according to the HCL it's a "JUNIPER Radeon HD 6750/6770" (https://en.opensuse.org/HCL:AMD_vide...rlx_and_radeon) so supported by fglrx. Have a read here first, https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:AMD_fglrx to be honest I prefer the build your own rpm method https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:AMD_fglr...e_rpm_yourself it will automagically update after a kernel update. If you go this route, then just make sure you follow the 'Check on this page' link for updated script links.

thanks for replying so quickly, i will sure try the building method, but i'm very new to OpenSUSE, should i just follow this method right after installed, or do i need to configure anything first, like update and etc?, sorry for these newbie questions, i'm really new to this!

    Hi
Yes, always make sure the system is up to date first

Then just follow the instructions and you should be fine.

For 13.1, absolutely the case. I had them running on my desktop with
13.1, and the straight install/reboot worked here.

... and Malcolm & Jim can certainly guide you through the bumps and bruises, if any, so:

Do not panic if something seems to go wrong.

    Do not do anything rash.

If you have important DATA, make sure it is backed up ... a few times over, if possible.

When you hit a roadblock, post back here with what went wrong, what the error code or message was, and what exactly you were doing at the time.

Then, be patient and wait for an answer.

    And, good luck!

thanks guys for your amazing support, i spent all day and night trying to install OpenSUSE 13.1 Gnome, i give up, kernel problems and etc, i assume OpenSUSE 13.2 Gnome will give me the same results, even if it install properly, will not work properly (at least not easily) with proprietary drivers., i'll sure try again in the future, but not for now
