Midnight Commander doesn't work in 13.2

I did a clean test-install of OpenSUSE 13.2 on a VM in VirtualBox that previously had a working 13.1 install. When trying to run midnight commander it no longer works. Midnight commander is installed by ‘zypper install mc’ as a root.

And what do you mean with that?
What happens when you run it? Does it start? Do you get some error message? Does some particular function not work?

It works fine here on my 13.2 installation.

And works here too.

I just get a busy bash prompt until I interrupt it with ctrl+c. I tried different -D debug levels to no avail.

I just discovered that it works but it takes about 30 seconds after issuing the command before it starts.

Hm, it starts instantly here.
What’s the current directory? (i.e. what filesystem, is it a local hard disk or a network mount e.g.)

Have you tried a fresh user?

Run it with “strace mc”. Do you get output while it hangs? What output?
