Default apper / packagekit removal - software installation

up until 13.1 I would remove apper and packagekit and use yast for all my installations / updates etc.

I've been trying to set this up in a new install of 13.2 -KDE

Once I have removed apper and packagekit I can't find any link to Install / Remove Software.

Previously when I have removed packagekit double clicking an rpm would launch install / remove software and the same if clicking on an rpm from within firefox.
Something seems to have changed and I just don't seem to be able to set this up.

Anybody have any idea on what I am missing here - or is this no longer possible in 13.2 and I need to keep apper installed?

Isn't Yast still there? You can use Yast software management to install/remove software. Or you can use "zypper" at the command line.

Personally, I leave Apper installed, but just turn it off in KDE so that it doesn't start.

yes, Yast Software management is still present but I just can't get it to work the way it did in 13.1 - ie. double click an .rpm and have it launch.
Having said that - after a day or so I am actually finding that apper is pretty good now so I might just leave it in place (aside from the bug that states "back end not available . . . " on first install attempt of a .rpm from a directory or within the browser)

I have exactly the same problem, except that I can't install rpms from Dolphin. Instead of the previous "install/remove software" option, apper is offered instead but the "backend" error appears if you try to use it.

Perhaps a kind person could remind me how to launch an rpm with zypper.
......but when it comes to computers, I've forgotten more than I ever knew.

The backend error is a known bug.
It only appears on the first attempt and if you attempt the install a second time it usually works.
