Default xdg-su correct program to elevate GUI privileges - MATE 1.8 OpenSUSE 13.1

I have MATE 1.8 installed on OpenSUSE 13.1.

If KDE kdesu and GNOME gnomesu...

Is xdg-su the correct program that should be run to elevate privileges for GUI apps?

    Thank you.

    Yes.
It's desktop independent and tries to do the right thing anywhere.
E.g. it will infact call kdesu when run inside KDE, and gnomesu in GNOME.

And it should be available on any system.

OTOH, you can also use kdesu or gnomesu if they are installed. But they might not be there, and they might start other daemons as well that normally are not running in MATE.
