Thread: System updates/Apper settings?

  1. #1

    Default System updates/Apper settings?

    Hello again.

Finally installed openSUSE 12.3, as stated in signature. I was trying to turn off automatic updates, by telling it to never look for updates, as I used to do in previous openSUSE versions. Question is, I can't find Apper or System updates settings.

I don't want Gnome's updates to make conflicts with Yast Software Manager, that's why I'm trying to disable them, but I can't find where. Already tried to run Software Updates from the System Tools applications, all it did was LOOK FOR updates, though installed nothing, but no settings...

    Can someone help me?

If you are using gnome the packagekit updater has worked OK for me. Unlike KDE and Apper.

You should be OK to use the Gnome Updater Application.
    Or just: zypper up

I'm looking how to disable Apper automatic updates check in KDE. Could anybody point me how to disable this annoying notification every time I boot the machine?

Open apper > configure > check for updates never
It still does check but that's it
Apparently this is now normal that it does something you tell it not to

i do not know how to just disable that right after boot check...but:

easiest: just right click the icon in the system tray and select
Disable (or something like that...i deleted mine so long ago i do not
remember)...there _may_ even be a way therein to disable just that
    after boot check...

slightly more difficult: open YaST Software Management and search on
apper, then click to set it to be uninstalled, and then click "Accept"

some people also uninstall packagekit along with apper...but, without
apper package kit is unused and no problem in KDE , but _may_ be
needed if you also use Gnome (i *think*)..

without apper it is up to you to remember to run YaST Online Update
(or 'zypper patch') as often as needed....or set it up to run
    automatically.

Many people choose to un-install it

There are no "automatic updates" by default on openSUSE. They don't install until you click on a button or press enter.

Many people don't choose to do that. Many people are not annoyed by a little icon appearing in the panel's system tray area, and even many more people don't have a problem finding KDE/Gnome system settings in the usual places (unless really new to openSUSE).

Oh, right. I didn't notice that small button in the right top corner which opens settings. I expected a huge icon somewhere in the visible area
    Now disabled it. Thanks
