Thread: Digital Clock on KPanel doesn't show current time

Default Digital Clock on KPanel doesn't show current time

    Hi all,

I'm currently running on openSUSE Tumbleweed and having a very strange issue: the KDE "Digital Clock" widget on my taskbar isn't displaying the proper time. Throughout the day, its as if it just stops. It may be 2:45 pm, but the clock still reads "2:25 pm".

If I change any of the widget's settings and hit the "Apply" button, it'll show the right time at that very moment, but that doesn't mean it is going to update (show the correct time) 5 minutes later. I have removed the widget and added it back in several times, all to no avail. Interestingly, the "Minimalistic Clock" widget I have displayed on the desktop shows the right time throughout the entire day.

Like I said, I'm running Tumbleweed (started with 13.1) with KDE version 4.13.3. I've had this issue since I was running the stock 13.1 version, however, so it wasn't my move to Tumbleweed that caused the problem.

    Thoughts?

Then you have to ask on the Tumbleweed forum. Please ask a moderator to
move your post there. Just click on the triangle report button below.

    Thoughts?
    And what does the command
    Code:
    date
show then? The correct time or the |KDE time"?

Good question. I should have thought of that.

Oh bull ****. Why is it that anytime someone mentios TW you tell them to
go away? Not every problem in a TW install is the result of using TW!

    To the OP:

Have you setup NTP yet. If not I would do that first and see if it fixes
    your problem.

This remark has some merit, but OTH, non Tumbleweed users wouldn't know if a problem is a general Tumbleweed one, which would be seen as such immediatly when it had been posted in the Tumbleweed forum.

For some problems it is alwyas a bit of a problem which audience to ask.

I'm sorry but in the context of the question asked it was plain as day
that the answer could come in this forum and also help non-TW users.

    Exactly.

Which shows in the fact that I expressed my doubts after reading the
    OP's second paragraph. :-)

    Hi
The point is moot, please refrain from this posting clutter. Leave it to
the forum staff to decide weather or not to move a thread, like spam,
use the report feature if you have an issue.

The date command gives me the proper time, and is in fact not in sync with what the digital clock widget is reporting. I should have prefaced my post with the fact that my NTP time sources are already configured, correct, and working as they should. So far as I can tell, this is a KDE issue (or at least a widget issue) and not an operating system issue. Indeed, the second widget - the "minimalistic clock" , which sits atop the desktop itself (and not on a panel) always shows the right time.

Additionally, when I've had the Digitical Clock widget's "show shadow" option checked, the shadow will update while the text on the foreground does not. It is as if the text just isn't be redrawn. It makes the whole thing look jumbled and messy.
