    Is the software in Package Search checked/tested/safe to download?

    Depends on the software/repo.

    The "official" packages are tested of course, those are the packages included in the distribution. You don't need the software.opensuse.org search (if that's what you mean with "Package Search") for those though, as they should be shown in YaST anyway.

    The "possibly unstable" packages are not tested by openSUSE in any way. The quality/testing mainly depends on the people that build them.

    yes, I mean that Package Search , and of course for packages not available in YaST
