    I had a problem like that a while back it was the fan on my old 6800+ NVIDIA card

    Well, it could (a memory fault), it the faulty section of memory is where the IO transfer takes place, or if it is faulty video memory. But, I do not think that is your problem. It still sounds more like a heat issue, to me.

    That would fit with gogalthorp's suggestion in the previous post.

    I have a fanless motherboard with integrated video and shared memory. Updated kernel, will report back if this resolves the issue

    Kernel update does not helped.
    Installed NVidia drivers, after restart yast updated and installed many system patches (from CLI, GUI not booted).     So did you run memory tests? Sounds like your hardware is having hiccups. I don't think this is software since other would be seeing this and the board has been clear of this sort of problem being reported for some time now.
