    Question Accept/Reject printer queue operation fails...

    When I attempted to print a web page from a USB stick, I got a "print processing" msg, then my printer acted as if it was going to print. I waited for a half hour. Then I attempted to cancel and reject the print job. I keep getting the msg:

    "Accept/Reject printer queue operation fails. Could not connect to CUPS Server"
    "ls user added to "lp" group(s)"

    Now, that print job is stuck in queue and I keeping getting that message. I would deeply appreciate some help. Here is the standard output:

    Code:
    ~> systemctl status cups

    With what application do you "attempt to print a web page from a USB stick". Never assume that other people know what you are doing and how. Maybe they reach the same result in a completely different way of working. How can they guess what you are doing?

    It's Mozilla Firefox 29.0.1.

    I assumed the device manager > printer control is the problem because of the print job stuck in queue. Thanks in advance.

    You are using firefox to print a file that resides on a usb stick? Why?
    What type of file is that?

    I don't understand.

    Or are you using a printer that is connected via usb, and you are simply
    using Firefox to print a web page from Internet?

    You see, I'm confused.

    You should be able to check the printer status or cancel any print jobs graphically via the CUPS web interface:

    http://localhost:631/jobs

    *Supply your root credentials when prompted to do so.

    Can you test print successfully via CUPS?

    Are you trying to print via a USB-connected HP printer by chance? (I may be wrong but I recall others mentioning that the user needs to be part of the 'lp'group for access to the device file with HP printers configured using HPLIP)

    No, no. It must work with plain user credentials, if you are the owner
    of the job. It works here.

    Yes, that works too, as long as you are in the CUPS administrative group (ie 'sys' group) as defined in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

    Wait.

    You need to be in the administrative group to change things in the
    printer, but to, say, abort your own job you do not need it.

    At least it was so the last time I looked, I don't know if it has
    changed :-?

    Yes, for that particular operation that is how I understand it (based on the following):

    Code:
     <Limit Cancel-Job CUPS-Authenticate-Job>
        Require user @OWNER @SYSTEM
        Order deny,allow
      </Limit>
