    Well perhaps you should address the problems one at a time in separate threads.

    You can of course use the KDE tools they just simply do not do as much as Yast. Then again you can do everything from the command line also and manually edit the configuration files.

    It is truly odd that KDE plays test sound and Yast does not. It is usually the other way if there is a problem.

    As to other apps did you install the required codecs or try with non proprietary sound file formats?

    I know what cheese is but not what forcheese is???

    In any case you need separate threads for each question

    As gogalthorp suggested, rather than post in a support forum a gripe like
    this, ask specific and clear questions about things you're having
    difficulty with so people can help you. If you want a venue to just rant
    and rave, I would suggest a personal blog.

    The volunteers here are focused on helping people with problems. In
    order to do so, when asking questions, it helps to be as specific as you
    can and to describe your problems with as much detail as you can.

    Saying "I'm beginning to hate openSUSE" doesn't fit into that category.

    Don't use Oneclick's
    Use Yast > Software Management

    Follow the guide here

    Install Chromium and pepper-flash
    or Manually you can download Chrome from google. Then just click the downloded .rpm and it will install

    In kde you might need to check the preferred device settings for the sound device for various functions

    What is "forCheese"?

    I you mean "cheese", you just need to use YaST package manager, as it is
    part of the official distribution.

    > My schoolwork require the google branded chrome browser, hard to install

    Why? What did you do? I don't find it hard at all.

    > YaST looks nice, but I would rather use KDE's built in tools

    So, if KDE doesn't have the module you need, what would you do? They
    fill different needs. You can ask the KDE people to do more modules and
    things, but you can not ask openSUSE to put fewer things in YaST. YaST
    is our thing, KDE is not.

    Now this is not clear. What do you mean exactly?

    @tux_peng.
    When you have technical questions/problems, please start threads for every one of them. Try to use the forum category that fits best and create a title that at least contains some of the keywords. This is the best way to draw the attention of the right people to your thread. And then always explain what you have and use (version of openSUSE, desktop, ...) and your problem. Good problem descriptions have three components:
    1. what did you do;
    2. what did you expect to be the results;
    3. ehat did you ghet instead.

    For general information on how to ask questions ons the internet: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

    This thread here is in Soapbox because that fits best the title given to it. Please, when anybody likes it to discuss the internall feelings of the OP, do it here. For technical help, please wait for eventual new threads to appear.

    and what stopping you to use KDE tools?
    I use what I need at the time.
    it I need to use Yast I use it, if I need to use CLI I use it
    if I need to use any other tool/app I uses it.
    I am learning Linux and how to use it. and when I am told by some one to use a tool I follow the directions. so far worked for me 99% of time out of 100%

    in the last 10 month, I had build out a file/VM server for my home.
    convert my old laptop to opensuse LXDE (love how it works BTW)

    and converting my main PC to Linux Mint as we speak(OpenSuse came a bit short on some functionality I need for this PC. I share it with my wife and daughter and need bit more user-friendliness than OpenSuse can give me.) I would love to have a more homogenized environment, as in all PC running the same distro, but just have to forgo the pipe-dream in favor of usefulness of each setup.
    palling to rebuild my HTPC to Linux based XBMC or MythTV box.

    If it doesn’t work, why offer 1-click install.

    I gave OpenSUSE a week so far, I wanted to try something other than Kubuntu, Arch ran great- but took to much time, Solyd had to many GNOME apps in the KDE install

    I tried Chromium, but video's didn’t load; it's labsim's HTML5 beta client; it wasn't hard to install Chrome once I found it

    I also downloaded a couple games to test sound, I use a USB card, I also have HDMI audio, and sound on my mobo. I just installed pavucontroll- It doesn't even see my iMic USB card! (This is a new system that I just built)

    I'm gonna give OpenSUSE a while longer, but I may try Fedora or Mageia
