New version of Firefox is very copmplicated

Dear all!
Today I have installed updates, in which a new version of Firefox got updated. This new version of Firefox is very complicated. I want to revert to my previous version of Firefox. Help in this situation is requested very humbly.

You mean you dont like the theme? If so I found this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/

Same problem here, and the theme restorer only worked partially.

Furthermore, the “Adjust” menu item doesn’t work at all. A page called “about:customizing” is opened, but unfortunately it’s completely blank, plus none of the buttons, etc. could be moved around to another location.

Is there any way to fix this one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know the only solution is to use those custom themes that exist on userstyles, etc. The theme restorer is still a work in progress (as you said) so your only effective way to get rid of this will be to find a theme you like on userstyles.com or write it yourself. Otherwise you will just have to wait. What I have started to do though is just put Firefox in full screen mode, use Tree Style Tabs and Vimperator.

Sorry minor correction, the site is userstyles.org

I read about the ‘Classic Theme Restorer’ on LXF forum, and gave it a go briefly, but actually all I required was the menu bar back. I invoked that by right-clicking on the tab area, and enabled ‘Menu Bar’ again. I can live with the icon theme.

To get menu bar back right click on a blanks spot on the tab bar and turn menu back on

I would go with the suggestions already made but if you get unsatisfactory results then Firefox 25 is still in the oss repo and versions 26, 27 and 28 are still in the oss-update repository.

Personally, I find the new look in Firefox 29 a long overdue significant improvement.

Complicated?
Pretty standard if you ask me.
In fact, you’ll find most browsers stick to a fairly intuitive design that makes them user friendly.

Yes it is possible to roll the update back using the versions tab in the Yast software manager, but I’d not recommend it.

This kind of reminds me of when Firefox 4 was released and many people
were complaining about it. I dont know if they will come to terms with
it like most people have (besides those mad enough to still be running
3.x). Although I guess it would be possible to sit at the ESR release
for a while no?

I run the ESR (Extended Service Release) version of Firefox and that is currently at version 24.5, so you might consider switching to it.

Eventually, though, it will see those same changes, so sooner or later the time will come that we have to learn to live with it or change browsers.

I actually have been using Chromium – although under some protest, because I did not really want to – most of the time for a few months now, because Firefox has given me a lot of headaches on the Forum and a handfull of other sites.

But, I still use it on places where it works okay.

Hi,

Firefox 31 (or 32) will be ESR again and will have these changes as
well. So 24.x will only persist for a few more months.
Please do not revert to Firefox 28 or any other non-ESR versions since
they have known security issues.

Also the customization options work here w/o any issues. It’s also
possible to get the menu bar back as described. What’s really missing is
the addon bar (but I never liked it anyway).

Wolfgang

I agree, and using the latest version should be the best option with regards to online security.

also me prefere the old style so I installed the addon classic theme restorer and configured as I like, if you want to have the menu bar back in the classic theme restorer config it is on a little menu’ on the lower left corner or if you want it compare only when you want press a shortcut like for example alt+b and it will appear…

How is it complicated?

Have you tried restarting Firefox in safe mode to see if the complication is caused by any of your extensions/theme?

Not complicated at all for me I just clicked the Menu button on the far right, selected Customize and added and removed icons around until it looks like this.

Okay, that is my Beta, but users can do the same with Firefox 29.0.

If you are looking to just get rid of the curved tabs you can try
http://userstyles.org/styles/100553/firefox-australis-slim-squared-tabs-transparent

You can also try another style I found while looking around
http://pastie.org/9139617 screenshot of it can be viewed here
http://paste.opensuse.org/view/raw/23454457

After that just add the Menu Bar back in and it will be almost exactly
like the old UI.

And if you dont like the yellow glow effect, go to line 31 and change
the color or just remove the line entirely. So what I did during testing
was:

box-shadow: -15px 25px 36px 30px rgb(255,255,255) !important; /*
main color */

This update has annoyed me too and the hunt for a different browser is on. The Pale Moon project looks potentially interesting. If it were on any of the repos, I’d give it a go.
