DNS ping name

I have setup a DNS server in openSuse 12.3 x68_64.

DNSzone : myserver.com
NS records node1.myserver.com
records ; recordkey node1 A type Ip4 domain name translation ip address

Works perfect only when trying to ping I have to type the full name: node1.myserver.com
How can I change the name so I can ping by typing #ping node1

If it is a local DNS for your local network, do not use any parent
domain that exists, like ".com". Use one that does not exist, like
".lnet". Otherwise, queries for your local computers will be redirected
to Internet, outside.

I mention that because "myserver.com"

cer@Telcontar:~> host myserver.com
myserver.com has address 54.224.109.24

and it is registered somewhere in Tokyo. Is that you?

That's local to you. The "search" line in "/etc/resolv.conf".

Not only the name. Just do not use .com, nor .org, or anything else that
exist.

..local is a typical choice, but it breaks avahi.
