Have you tried the latest version of k3b? On openSUSE 13.1 it is 2.02.
Don’t know if it will help. i also use that version on 12.3. But I run
under KDE.

GeForce 8400GS (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.49)|KDE 4.12.4

Well the best K3b/KDE versions available in the openSUSE-12.3 oss repository are 2.0.2/4.10.0. For a very lightweight, fast desktop I prefer Openbox, which I think runs KDE applications better than Xfce, which I find more Gnome-centric. K3b-2.0.2 definately works well from Openbox.
