Thread: Nvidia & Linux...

  1. #1

    Default Nvidia & Linux...

A while ago, among other issues, I mentioned my concern regarding Nvidia and Linux development in this thread.
And, though it's too old by now, I think I found one of the sources that lead to my doubts. Relevant part begins on minute 48:10.

But then, while searching some more, I found that Nvidia seemingly is changing a bit its posture and has released the new Tegra K1 drivers for open source, something even Torvalds himself has praised now.

In the other thread I noticed opinions being either neutral or opposite in general. Someone said new Nouveau driver was indeed working very good with a GT630; mr Wolfi even said that Nvidia had announced that they'd finally support Nouveau driver development. However I couldn't find any news regarding this fact...
Could this be the reason of Nouveau being working "well" with GT630?

Regarding Tegra, good for it. Mobile users may have reason to have hope. But what about PC/laptop users? Have there been some positive development for Linux in the last months or last year?

    Thanks beforehand.

    LOL

You simply did not have a problem that any could see.

The question you ask could not be answered since we are all users here and the details of development are just as foggy to us as to you lol

Maybe join a nouveau development mail list if you really need that question answered ???

No idea. In NNTP - due to Novell system problems - this is the first
post in the thread. So, from this viewpoint, you're neither guilty or
innocent; perhaps the Scottish verdict of "not proven" is more
    appropriate?

Aalto Talk with Linus Torvalds, hosted by Aalto Center for
Entrepreneurship (ACE) in Otaniemi on June 14, 2012. Linus was
interviewed by Will Cardwell and followed with a Q&A session with the
    audience. Enjoy!

I will have to wait for more than two hours till the video downloads and
I can see that minute in the talk.

I did not understand at all... Were you not able to see my first post at all?
And if Robin Listas was able to repost it, shouldn't we be trying to discuss it already?

Phoronix is a good place to get this kind of news

That's right, we did not see it at all.

Now we can, not before :-)

Ok, some explaining for you: :-)

Some of us do not read the forum on a web browser. Graham uses "Claws
    Mail", me I use "Thunderbird".

WHAT? You use a mail reader?

Well, yes, we use the forum via an NNTP <--> vBulletin USENET gateway.

    openSUSE
Forums FAQ - How do I use NNTP (newsreader) to access these forums?

It so happens that when you wrote your post the gateway was down:

    https://forums.opensuse.org/showthre...problems-today

So, about six hours of posts were lost to us NNTP users. We do not even
know that they exist. If we happen to know about them, we can't answer.

When somebody posts a new reply on those threads, via the web interface,
then we see that reply only... and then, as we get a link we can click
on it and find what else was said. This is exactly what I did. I opened
the link and reposted it for our convenience.

Now, about your initial post: I still had not a chance to watch the
video. Maybe in a bit. Although I guess what it is he said.

Ooohh, I didn't have a clear idea about mail lists and vbulletin... Thanks, Listas.

Then I'll wait a bit till you are able (or also someone else) to discuss...
