    Question Need a printer!

Took me a long time to finally get the really old version of Lightscribe working in 13.1, and now I can't find any disks! Grrr!

I frequently send videos and pictures to friends and family, some who don't have a computer and need to see things on their DVD player that is hooked to their TV. Hand written Magic Marker labels are just not suitable. I guess I'll need to print labels to disks.

My HP printer won't print to CDs/DVDs and HP says there are none that do.

Brother makes a MFC-J875DW printer that is shown as being able to print on disks but they don't show any Linux support. Can anyone tell me if there are, in fact, drivers for that printer and if they support printing to disks?

I have a new, boxed Epson sitting in a box that will do disks, but Epson printers dry up so quickly if they're not used frequently, I'm afraid to set this on up.

Anyone have suggestions to my situation?

    Bart;

    Check here:

I have not installed that particular printer, but the other printers from Brother work well with their drivers. There
are directions on the Brother site for installing.

The Brother MFC-J875DW is supported with Linux drivers. (I just checked.)

I downloaded and installed the lpr and cupswrapper drivers (32-bit only but they install okay on 64-bit system), and configured a test printer using socket://, although I don't own the printer. Anyway, amongst the advanced print options available is 'Media Type' which allows 'Printable Disc' to be selected.

Aha! That seems to be the answer! Guess I'll have to spend a little cash.

Thanks so much, both of you, for your efforts!

Why not simply print the CD labels (http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Sea...=-1039&y=-45)?

Then you don't need to buy a new printer - just some new cartridges!

Labels are a very bad idea on CDs, but especially on DVDs.

Any stickies on these media are creating a big risk. The labels have been known to come off, or part comes off, in the DVD player and brick the DVD player.

Sticky paper labels? They peel off.

The printer is here, set up, installed and operating. Now, to set up a template to use to print labels!

Thanks so much deano_ferrari, for setting up and verifying that this printer would work for my situation!
