Do you get to the login screen?
Are you saying you can login with XFCE?
Have you tested a new user?

    Normally, reinstalling won't help much.

Can you please upload the file /var/log/kdm.log after a failed KDE login to http://susepaste.org and post a link?

Well, could you upload it to somewhere else then please? It's likely too long to be posted directly.
    F.e. try:
    http://paste.kde.org/
    http://pastebin.com/
    http://justpaste.it/
    http://pastebay.net/

I hope one of them will work for you. I haven't tried any of them myself yet.

Are you actually using kdm as login screen, or something else?

    Let's try something different:
Run "startkde" in a terminal window. (important: it must be in a graphical session, like XFCE or IceWM)
    What happens, does KDE start?
    What messages do you get?

OK, this rules out an installation problem then.

I see nothing obvious in the output as well.

I'll take a guess: maybe a graphics driver issue? (if you run "startkde" in XFCE kwin isn't started as you already have a window manager running)

What graphics card/driver are you using?

What does this report? (you may have to install the package "Mesa-demo-x" to get any output)
    Code:
    glxinfo | grep render
Try to boot to "recovery mode" ("Advanced Options" in the boot menu). Does KDE work then?
