Default OpenSuSe 13.1 won`t boot anymore - XServer Problem

Suddenly from one day to another my Opensuse 13.1 - KDE doesn`t boot anymore properly. It will start in the "Bottle" - Kernel mode. (Console only)

If i log in and then type startx some errors appear, I have photographed the console:

I know it is a bit hard to read, this is what it is saying from top to bot:

    Code:
    Welcome to Opensuse 13.1 "Bottle" - Kernel 3.11.10-7-desktop (tty1).

    linux-hkem login: jakob
    Password:

    xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
    xinit: server error

xinit failed. /usr/bin/Xorg is not setuid, maybe that`s the reason?
If so either use a display manager (strongly recommended) or adjust /etc/permissions.local

If I go under advanced boot options and choose the old kernel version with the low graphical settings (the bottom option) it would boot normally.
I hope someone could help me fix this.

startx as user does not work, unless you change some permissions. See
permissions.local file for how. It has issues, though.

See? the error message tells you exactly what I told you now. You gotta
    read them ;-)

So you did apply some updates... what?

No, i did not update anything, I just wanted to say that booting with grub advanced options the most bottom option does actually work. (I cant remember with which settings the option does exactly boot, but I think it is some kind of safe mode with low resolution??)

I still don`t exactly understand what is wrong now and why it suddenly does not do a normal desktop boot, but this strange Kernel bottle console mode. I thought startx would do the desktop boot manually thats why I tried this command.

Yes, you are probably are using safemode. It applies a lot of changes.

It looks like a video problem to me. What are you using?

There was a kernel update recently, and often these can break video (sp
with proprietary drivers). The update is to Kernel 3.11.10-7, which is
what you are using (you posted that detail), so certainly you have
updated your system very recently (three days at most).

startx works if you do what the error message tells you to do.

Ok I think your assumption must be right.
I didn`t realize there was another Kernel Update, (The last one I remember was the one with 12.3 - 13.1 switch) but I have probably just overread it with all the automatic updates Opensuse does.

Anyway I just tried startx as root and it would say something like module NVIDIA is missing, so I think you are right with saying it is a video card issue. Do you have any plan and how I could proceed to fix this, or gather more information?

Assuming installed the nvidia driver "the hard way" you have to rerun
    the ...run file.

Ok I`ve done as you said, reinstalled my NVIDIA driver with the run file and now it is working again
Hopefully the problem will not appear again.

    Thank you for you help!

On the contrary, expect it to happen again on every kernel update. You
have to be aware of it, and know what to do.

please allow me to refresh this old thread because I believe I suffer from the same problem (Suse 13.1). How do I reinstall the NVIDIA drivers via the "run"-file as described below ?

Best to start your own thread, rather than bring up an old one. You will get more attention and more responses.
