Has anyone installed 13.1 to a USB drive ?

I found a 16GB flash drive in my desk and was thiniking that I might try and install 13.1 to it. I would use it for when I travel.

thanks

Why not just try it (Has anyone installed 13.1 to a USB drive ?), then tell us how it goes?

It is not much different than installing elsewhere.

You have to be careful of fstab entries, choose identifiers that do not
change with connection. Ditto for grub. Also be careful that grub does
not installs elsewhere.

I have installed to an external hard drive, but not to a flash drive. But it should be the same, except the flash drive will be slower. Details of my install.

hi,

new install of openSUSE13.1 was made on a USB 32GB Verbatim memory stick from iso DVD

HW: hp-Pavilion-g7-2248sg laptop having UEFI bios and openSUSE13.1 already installed on HDD,
(window8 deleted on previous install of openSUSE12.3),
CPU: AMD A8-4500M (X4), AMD Radeon HD 7640G graphics, 4GB RAM,

no problems encountered on the install,
secure boot works ok with authorised kernels, (installed via yast)
otherwise secure boot needs to be deselected in bios

usage: back-up OS in case of update/finger problems

hth

PS. its slow compared to external USB HDD
