If you want to have fewer ttys, you will need to configure and build the kernel
yourself. Plan on devoting an entire day unless you have previously done this.
When you finish, you will save a few hundred bytes in the kernel, and it will
boot a few milliseconds quicker. Is that worth it to you?

Of course, you will need to repeat the kernel rebuild for every new kernel
release. Of course, it will be somewhat quicker after the first time.

The log output does not show timestamps, so that is not easy to see how
fast it goes.

So, awhile back I was reading the ongoing blog posted by the systemd creators(pls don’t make me find it, it should be easy enough to find for anyone who really wants to read their words),

And they actually used tty as an example for one of systemd’s cool features… unlike SystemV, instantiating multiple versions of the same app (the tty console in this case) does not require whole new processes. Instead, when systemd launches a new instance of an existing running app, the new instance utilizes shared resources of the currently running app.

So, when you consider the issue of multiple ttys when running systemd, it’s actually kind of cool that 27 instances(likely far more than anyone would really need) might already be available to use without needing to create, and the multiple extra running instances actually don’t cost the system much if anything to instantiate (and then go latent).

just what I need it???

This feature should not need systemd, it is, in theory, a Linux design
feature. Even Windows 3.11 had it!

That is an interesting startup system but it is NOT openSUSE. ie you can’t just install that and expect it to work. But then it is up to you and the amount of low level Linux knowledge you have and if it is worth the large effort you would have to do to make it work to save maybe a couple of sec of boot time.

PS what is your hardware and how long does the boot take. It may just be a simple tweak if the boot time is real unseasonable.

It is possible that 13.2 switches to dracut. They are trying.

Is that a virtual machine? You have vmtoolsd enabled.

Then uninstall that one

However, notice that the services listed by “systemd-analyze blame” may
overlap. They are not run one after the other.

You have the list of services taking more time from “systemd-analyze
blame | head”, and find out why they take longer than they should, if
they do. You can not try to take the full list of services and outthink
the devs to decide what to remove. That’s futile.

You might, for instance, generate the plot:

systemd-analyze plot > plot.svg

then visualize it and think…

Well, you can see for yourself, there is nothing wrong in there. xdm
takes some time, but it has to. Same for polkit. The only thing you may
consider removing, to gain 2 seconds, is plymouth. At the cost of making
it “uglier”, some say.

Is this a desktop and does it have a floppy?

If so check the BIOS/UEFI and see if the floppy is enabled there. If so turn it off. There is a known problem if the BIOS has a floppy enabled and it does not exist.
