Thread: network card problem at install?

Default network card problem at install?

I'm just not having a good "computer week" I guess...
I've installed many versions of openSuSE over the years. 2 or 3 different ones on this specific hardware configuration.
I've had a working system with 12.2 but decided to do a clean update to 13.1 / 64bit
But during the process of installation, it kills the connection to my router.

I'm using the very same disc that I used to install a different set of hardware on which I'm working now and it gave me no problems whatsoever about the network not being available. it updated and immediately upon completion of the install i could browse the web.

But on the other system, at power up, I am linked to the router, all lights are green, specifically the connection to the PC I'm working on.
I pull up the boot menu, choose to boot from the 13.1 disk and as soon as the process begins, I loose the green light on the router for my connection.

So I can't define any repositories or do anything much in terms of setting up the system like I should be able to.
Proceeding into the install process some, I'm seeing messages telling me that both of my network cards are failing.

So i abort the install process and back out to Exit / Reboot and choose reboot.
As soon as the system starts POST and starts to load BIOS stuff, the light comes back on and the network (obstensibly) is now reconnected.

How am I to install the system if I can't get it to connect to the 'net during the install process?

AND if I pop the 12.2 drive back into the system, no problems whatsoever with the NICs. Connects to the web and everything is lovely.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!

And here's another interesting tidbit. If I boot to a Knoppix live cd... the network works perfectly.
    I'm baffled.

It's an Asus A8N32-SLI deluxe, so actually there are dual Gb nics

    Marvell 88E1111

And neither of them will stay alive when trying to install 13.1

Why do you need to connect during the install? Maybe because you are
using the netinstall CD, but you are not saying that. You could then
instead try one of the lives instead and see if they connect or not.
