Thread: openSUSE 12.2: Firefox problems

  1. #1

    Default openSUSE 12.2: Firefox problems

Firefox has started to become slow and frequently unresponsive, and often totally freezes. I am running version 24 whereas 26 appears to be the most recent. How do I upgrade to the latest version?

    Thank you for your advice.

And how did you install it in the first place?

MozillaFirefox 26 is available in the standard update repo, so if you use the package included in openSUSE, it should get updated automatically.
Try to run YaST->Online Update or "sudo zypper up" to install it.

If that doesn't work, please show your repo list:
    Code:
    zypper lr -d

Upgrading to the latest version may not help, but is a good first step.

Thank you. I applied the available openSUSE 12.2 updates. That installed the latest Firefox, version 26. Runs much better now but is still not 100% stable. Will try some of Firefox's own remedies now.

If you are using the nvidia driver 331.20 then upgrade this to the latest 331.38 version, as it is known to cause problems with (not only) Firefox:

Thank you. Forgive someone who's still quite green but how do I establish which nvidia driver I have, and if it's the wrong one how do I install an up-to-date driver? I have done some locates and cats but am none the wiser.

    Cheers and my thanks,
    Paul

Well, did you install the nvidia driver? And how?
    You should know that.

If you installed it from the nvidia repo, you could find out the version in YaST->Software Management (search for "nvidia") or this:
    Code:
    rpm -qa | grep nvidia
The file /var/log/Xorg.0.log should also tell which driver (and version) you are using.
