Thread: P2Pool - Bitcoin

    Default P2Pool - Bitcoin

    There is an application server that is called P2Pool that most people use Ubuntu to run it. I myself have a Xi3 Z3RO system that came with SuSE. The problem I am having is I am not sure how to convert some of the commands from Ubuntu to SuSE zypper and need some help. Also Ubuntu won't install on the Z3RO for some reason.

    The P2Pool application server is for people who want to setup their own bitcoin pool server.

    The installation starts out with this:

    sudo aptitude install python-software-properties
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bitcoin/bitcoin
    sudo aptitude update
    sudo aptitude install bitcoind

    The first command does run but it comes back saying it can't find python-software-properties.

    Then to install the packages for P2Pool this command needs to be run.

    sudo aptitude install screen git python-rrdtool python-pygame python-scipy python-twisted python-twisted-web python-imaging

    The reset of manual which I don't really need to know as it talks about setting up the other crypto currencies can be found here:

    I would appreciate your help!
    Thanks

    Hi
    So all you need is bitcoind, just install bitcoin from the network repo which contains bitcoind;

    BTW, these are the openSUSE forums (not SuSE) and we allways appreciate it when you tell us which version of openSUSE you use.

    OpenSuSE 13.1

    Hi
    Yes, you don't need that first python software app, that's an Ubuntu
    thing, you don't need the ppa that's an Ubuntu thin, you just need that
    bitcoin daemon, the rest (in the second section) are available by
    default in openSUSE.

    So grab the bitcoin one and install via zypper in, then run;
    Code:
    zypper in screen git python-rrdtool python-pygame python-scipy python-twisted python-twisted-web python-imaging

    I am having trouble with OpenSUSE 13.1 now. I tried to install the ATI Catalyst driver and I was prompted to install the repositories, the same thing happen when I wanted to read the readme file for Bitcoin-QT. In the installation process is there something else I need to check off so I am not going back and forth like this?

    Thanks,

    Hi
    Just follow the how to, and substitute the apt-get install with zypper
    in (I use less in a terminal for readme's). Install bitcoin, edit the
    config file etc as per the how to. Then install all the other apps
    required and run the commands screen, git etc as indicated?

    For your graphics card issues, start another thread on what you did,
    the gpu hardware etc...

    I downloaded the Bitcoin-QT for Linux, it has bitcoind (headless) and bitcoin-qt (GUI). Both are pre-complied and the GUI run, but do I need to put them somewhere (they both look like gear icons)?

    Just downloading the blockinfo now.
