Just to mention what I ended up myself with was using
gnome-disk-utility even though I am a KDE user (the command is gnome-disks).
Why: Because it is more intuitive than for example yast partitioner and
shows what the devices actually are (it shows me a card reader as a card
reader and so on, I do not have to guess from the size of the device
what it is).
