Message about Forums outage: what is the SEO plugin?

I am very glad we are running again and it is of course very nice that an explanation can be found on top of the forum pages. But can someone please explain what the “SEO plugin” is supposed to do so that mere dumb people like me may understand if and where we may experience strange things we are not used to?

In a recent thread we have noticed that a short link to a thread in the
forum is not working. Is this related to that “SEO plugin” removal?

http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php?t=494231

that points to http://tinyurl.com/npgbg5k, which does not work.

SEO = Search Engine Optimization. This is party done by SEF (Search Engine Friendly) URL’s. Wich leads to URL’s in your addressbar in this style
forums.opensuse.org/nederlands-dutch/helpen-en-hulp
instead of what you see now when you enter the dutch subforums (What you see now is the URL as php generates it, not optimized).

I am human, I am not a search engine.

I do not read URLs, I click on them and then they have to show me the contents of the link.

Now I am in the almost unworkable situation that the links in the mails do not function. Do not tell me that that is because it is so nice for a search engine.

Except that they are - but you should, in notification e-mails, be
getting valid links rather than SEO-optimized links.

If you’re not, let Kim know in the staff area.

too much.

I will try to get this message to Kim in the appropriate place. but posting here mighthelp others to use the links as long as they are wrong.

Subsequent posts here and in other nearby threads seem to indicate that
links are now working again. So I tried to verify that.

When I click on the first link in Carlos’ post above, I am taken to a
forum thread at the URL

https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/494231-How-do-I-switch-desktops

That is fine, but in post #4 from knurpht there is a link to
https://forums.opensuse.org/content/180-how-activate-vnc-server-opensuse-12-3.html

and that is 404

So it seems to me that links are NOT working again. What is the state
please?

What can we do with the many links in older posts (older as in 1 week or
more) where people say others to read there, and do not work?

They’re still looking into it. Thought it was fixed, looks like there
might be a case issue.

It sure is

And example of a case where it’s broken

forums.opensuse.org/content/129-kde-4-9-update.html

URL’s now look like this

forums.opensuse.org/entry.php/149-openSUSE-13-1-Multi-media-and-
Restricted-Format-Installation-Guide

Notice both the use of Uppercase letters and the .php
