Thread: Display of Names or labels on Removable Media.

Question Display of Names or labels on Removable Media.

Is there a way to make Dolphin or the Application Launcher display the name of my external hard drives? or can I name them? It just shows the size, but I have many different ones with the same size and for me it's hard to tell which one is which. Anybody knows a way to achieve this?

To see the labels, you can do:

    Code:
    ls /dev/disk/by-label/
Those are all the filesystem names your system sees. If there is a
partition that has no name, you can name it. For instance, the YaST
partitioner module can create those labels. Parted can, too. And there
are also CLI commands to do it, different for each filesystem type. For
example, for ext2/3/4 you use e2label.

However, I do not know if Dolphin uses those names. I think it does. (I
    do not use Dolphin).

    Dolphin does use Labels

You can give a partition a label. Personally I use gparted.
