Default aticonfig problem - X needs to be running

I am trying to use overdrive commands via aticonfig.

    when I use
    Code:
    aticonfig --odgt
or anything related, I get an error:
since I am typing this into a Konsole window, I'm pretty sure X is running.

From what I gather, aticonfig looks for xinit (maybe)

    any help?

    Suse 12.3

And how exactly are you running aticonfig?
If you use "su" or "sudo" to get root privileges it won't find the X session on openSUSE.
You have to use "su -" (notice the '-') to switch to root.
