I've noticed that LibreOffice launches much quicker than before and
that I have no longer been bothered by the bouncing cursor during and
after the launch process. I'm not quite sure what changes to KDE
    could have enabled this.

    @Cloddy,

    hi,

the bouncing cursor can be controlled by
    -System Settings
    --Application and System Notifications
    ---Launch Feedback

    default setting for
    ----Startup indication timeout (both)
    was 30 seconds

maybe be these defaults are now less

on this PC both were set manually to 3 seconds

after the update they are now 3 & 5 seconds

    ymmv

But why are you looking for it? It should be installed automatically by YaST/zypper...
There is no libkgapi2-2 package for opensuse 12.3. I think you meant 13.1

Right, I forgot that you are on 12.3, sorry.

12.3 comes with libkgapi0, isn't that enough? The KDE 4.12 packages should be compiled against the standard distro.
You may have to remove libkgapi1 or libkgapi2-2 though if you used the 4.11 repo before, maybe there's some conflict.

checking for -p flag to install... yes
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
    checking for a thread-safe mkdir -p... /usr/bin/mkdir -p
    checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
    checking for kde-config... not found
configure: error: The important program kde-config was not found!
Please check whether you installed KDE correctly.

"kde-config" is part of kdelibs3, so install that.
As was already asked, what are you trying to compile? Some KDE3 program?
