    Default Am I doing something wrong?

    Ok, so I have been a windows user for well, since I was a kid.

    So since I am trying to switch to Linux, and all the reviews said Opensuse was #1 among the distros, I install it.

    My other post was a specific request about truecrypt, but after I fixed(no idea how) the wi-fi connection, I decided to try and get other things running.

    Flash:

    An attempt to watch videos on youtube prompted a flash install, which seems like it wants to resolve dependencies continuously.

    Videos:

    An attempt to watch movies on my flash drive didn't work, since the video player comes up with no results when it tries to find the codecs.

    SMplayer:

    Installed SMplayer when videos didn't work, and it doesn't play anything, just gets a message saying something went wrong.

    Oops, something wrong happened

    MPlayer failed to start. Please check the MPlayer path in preferences.

    Log is thus:

    I guess my question is really this...

    Am I doing something wrong here? Everything I try to install or use seems broken/unuseable outside of the packaged software. Every time I try to use something that didn't come with the OS needs a special handshake or whatever.

    Is there any way that I can use OpenSuse for everyday use without having to learn to write code?

    I am very frustrated here.

    The question: yes. Let go of the question whether it can be done. Even the title .... you may be doing things wrong without being aware of it, but you made the start you should make: post, ask for help, explanation, background. That way you'll learn.

    Don't let yourself get frustrated. There's a wonderful community ready to help you where ever they can. There's nothing wrong with linux, nothing wrong with you. Take your time to get around, ask, read, you did not learn Windows or OSX in a day.
