Thread: When is next version of kernel coming?

  1. #1

Question When is next version of kernel coming?

Does anyone know when to expect the next version of kernel available at opensuse's regular repositories, perhaps in openSUSE-13.1-Update ?

I might have encountered a bug in kernel preventing hibernation, in file /usr/src/linux-3.11.6-4/drivers/dma/ioat/dma_v3.c

The updates are only expected to resolve security issues. If you want the latest released kernel you need to add the Kernel:Release repository; e.g.
    Code:
    # zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard/ Kernel:stable-standard
    # zypper mr -r -p99 Kernel:stable-standard
    This is currently kernel-3.12.5

openSUSE sticks to the major kernel version that came with the distr, i.e. 3.11. Critical fixes etc. are usually backported to that kernel. If you want a more recent kernel, use eng-it's post.
Mind, kernel-version-numbering is not the same as it used to be, but I guess you know what you're talking about, since you're referring to the sources.

Default Probably the bug exists in 3.12.5 as well.

Thanks, tried kernel 3.12.5, did not help.

Found the solution by changing a BIOS setting to avoid the bug's activation. See

An big bugs. There are bugs in the 32 bit version affecting hibernation
and pwoer off in 13.1, so indeed they are considering an update to the
next long life kernel version (the current one is EOL already).
