Thread: NIS problem in client running OpenSuSE 13.1

Post NIS problem in client running OpenSuSE 13.1

I have a small local network with an NFS+NIS server and clients with OpenSUSE 12.1 and 12.3. Today I decided to test OpenSUSE 13.1 for a client, and everything worked amazingly smooth... until I wanted to log in using NIS. I cannot log in. I used exactly the same Yast>NIS Client parameters as my OpenSUSE 12.x clients, and exactly the same Yast>Firewall settings. NFS seems to work perfectly, and systemctl tells me that nscd.service is loaded, active and running. Restarting does not solve the problem, nor does a quick "zypper up". Any ideas/suggestions on how I can get my NIS client working will be greatly appreciated.

Check whether the network card is activated during boot, not at cable connection. If latter is the case, change the value, reboot and see of things improve
Another one is to turn off the firewall and see if it works without.
° Appreciate my reply? Click the star and let me know why.

° Perfection is not gonna happen. No way.

Thank you for the reply. I checked, and the network card is activated "At Boot Time".

I turned off the firewall using "rcSuSEfirewall2 stop" and the problem unfortunately still remains.

Update: I decided to do a fresh install of 13.1 on an old laptop and set it up as an NIS Client as well, same procedure (setup static IP, setup Firewall, setup NFS Client, setup NIS Client), just to check replicability of my problem. Again, login failed. I then did a fresh install of 12.3, do exactly the same procedure, and... login successful. So now I'm pretty sure I have a real, replicable issue with 13.1. What was changed?

It has been more than a week and so I thought I'd do a quick follow-up on this thread. Any clues on what changed in NIS client in OpenSUSE 13.1 that might be faulty? I really want to use 13.1, with its updated kernel and longer support. Any form of help is always appreciated.

I was trying to use MyCloud as and NFS and I get the same problem on 13.1 complains about the firewall, even with it off? Is this a bug?
