I use Gnome and have the latest updates so it's not a general issue.
But yes, some info about how and when, like what do you mean with won't start:
Do you get a logon or do you get dropped in a text interface?
Or do you get a blank screen after logging in?
Or did the screen blank out after the updates, or after an eventual reboot?...

got the same issue with my home laptop. Don't have an access to the logs right now, but there were some messages about "gnome-settings-daemon.desktop is respawning too fast" or smth like that.
PS: 1) Icewm starts normally after killing gdm from the console.
2) Restarting gdm ends with crash

Hi,
I have a same kind of problem but with kde instead of gnome. After the updates I installed yesterday kde crashes during the login. Icewm works normal. I get messages of the cpu soft lockups for Xorg en kwin. Do you have similair messages?
The updates that I installed yesterday where for grub2 and pulseaudio. Which did you install?
Regards,
Arjan

Same problem here on two boxes. Does anybody know what is causing the problem?
How can we debug which packet is causing the problem?
Temp.fix which worked for me: just disable update repo and run "zypper dup"

The pulseaudio update, which fixed pavucontrol crashing on 32bit systems, caused GNOME and other programs using pulseaudio to crash in turn (on 32bit). The update has now been removed again, so you can enable the update repo again.
