    Default I can't get the gcc-c++ compiler installed.. (actually.. I dont know how to...)

    Hi,

    I need to get an Eclipse C++ up and running on my SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (i586)

    Eclipse install went well, but I cant get the gcc-c++ compiler installed..

    What I did so far: (lots of googling..)

    • Just to see what is there:

    susehost:~ # rpm -q gcc
    gcc-4.3-62.198
    susehost:~ # rpm -q gcc-c++
    package gcc-c++ is not installed
    susehost:~ #

    • Went to YaST2 Software Managment where found "gcc-c++ -

    The system GNU C++ Compiler"
    Install failed.. I think it tried to find the install on CDRom Drive

    • Tried zypper

    susehost:~ # zypper install gcc-c++
    Loading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...
    Resolving package dependencies...

    The following NEW packages are going to be installed:
    gcc43-c++ gcc-c++

    Overall download size: 3.0 M. After the operation, additional 7.9 M will be used. (<<< download from where??)
    Continue? [YES/no]: YES
    Retrieving package gcc43-c++-4.3.3_20081022-11.18.i586 (1/2), 3.0 M (7.9 M unpacked)
    Failed to mount cd:///?devices=/dev/sr0 on /var/adm/mount/AP_0x00000001: No medium found (mount: No medium found on /dev/sr0)

    Abort, retry, ignore? [A/r/i]:

    • Found the gcc-c++.ymp on software.opensuse.org..

    did download.. but no clue was found how to install that image.
    Many thanks,
    Adzy

    These are to openSUSE forums. The SUSE forums are here: https://forums.suse.com/forum.php
    The people there might have more clues about SLES's details.

    I am not using SLES, but I'll try to answer anyway.

    You have to insert your installation medium first, then you should be able to install it. (the same applies to YaST)
    Or enable the online repos. They should be in YaST->Software Repositories.
    But I don't know about SLES, as I said before.

    You should also be able to install the C++ Development pattern in YaST->Software Management (View->Patterns), this will install all the suff you might need...

    That's no image, that's a 1-click install, for openSUSE most likely.
    Since the compiler should be included in SLES anyway, don't use that!

    Sorry, but these are the openSUSE forums, not the SLES/SLED forums.
    Please post here instead: SLES/SLED
    forums
    (same login/pass).

    Why don't you just install from the online repo? If you don't know how to do that we can help you.

    A warning!

    Please be carefull when giving advice in this thread. It is not about openSUSE, but about SLED/SLES. Thus you should be very sure that your advice fits for SLES/SLED.

    Better still, do not answer here, but wait until the OP starts his question on the SLES/SLED forums and then answer there.

    If the online repos are configured (no idea if they are by default on SLES), it should work when you choose "Ignore", at least you should be able to disable the DVD this way (in YaST->Software Repositories).

    But anyway, they should know better in the SUSE forums...

    Hi FlyMail.. Thanks for the offer in spite of being on the wrong forum!

    Online Repro: I need some help..

    In YaST2 I can find where to change the software repository form a cd:///?device=/dev/sr0 to an http or ftp.. but not sure where they are
    Can I just download my system GNU C++ Compiler from that repository (where is it?) and install with zypper or any other tool?
    I think its all very simpel.. if you'v done it once :-)

    Thanks,
    Adzy

    It might require a license contract :-?

    Of course.
